The event

The 90-minute workshop offers a practical introduction to the Japanese embroidery art of Boro&Sashiko. A traditional technique that translates the central elements of visible mending—aesthetically visible repair, creativity, and appreciation of textiles—into the modern day.

It is precisely this approach and the meditative nature of the work, which is suitable for beginners and advanced learners alike, that makes Japanese embroidery unique within today's handicraft and DIY culture.

After a brief introduction to the cultural background, the use of original Japanese tools, and the most important basic stitches, the practical part of the workshop begins. Participants work with original sashiko yarns, special Japanese needles, and prepared fabrics. The aim is to develop your first embroidery pattern and get a feel for rhythm, material, and technique.

In addition, Boro&Sashiko is a low-threshold format and offers specialist retailers the opportunity to expand their own workshop and product range offerings with a contemporary upcycling theme.
