For the seventh time ”Von Broich Mohair ApS” are exhibitors at the H+H Handycraft & Hobby Fair in Cologne, where they will showcase the quality product “Mohair by Canard”. “Mohair by Canard” has existed for more than 15 years and as Von Broich Mohair now claims the ownership of the brand, it has expanded steadily on the Danish as well as on the international market. Von Broich Mohair proudly shows off the exhibition in the heart of the fair in Hall 11.1 E009, which is easy to find.
The huge progress for the “Mohair by Canard” yarn is due to different reasons. First and foremost is the quality that is exceptionally well received by the critics. For Von Broich Mohair the sustainability and animal ethics are absolutely crucial for the company.
The mohair yarn is produced in South Africa where a collaboration with “Mohair South Africa” secures the consideration to all implicated in the production. Mohair South Africa is a non-profitable organization that has a strict watch on the production environment and the welfare of the animals. The spinners who produce the mohair yarn put a pride in sustainability and the animal ethics, which is also why the collaboration is of great value to Von Broich Mohair. Mohair South Africa provides, in collaboration with “Textile Exchange”, the possibility for Von Broich Mohair to receive yarn that is spun of mohair with RMS status. Even though the business partners assure the conditions of the animals, Von Broich Mohair does visit the farms in South Africa from time to time to check the quality and get a feeling for the environment.
Von Broich Mohair originally bred the Angora goats for decades and therefore knows the importance of the welfare of the animals in order to get the fabulous hair. In 1992 Von Broich Mohair started their life’s work with mohair. In a few years the livestock hit 250 angora goats. The farm that was driven organically slowly established a farm shop with products made of mohair. All this required knowledge about the goats, the hair, the production methods, the quality, the processing and the sale. Once the sales and the customers at the farm increased, a whole new knowledge about the angora goat got interesting, namely the history of the angora goat and the influence the hair had over time. Usually customers mistook the mohair for a kind of wool, which is wrong, as the mohair is a different type of hair itself. Mohair is hair, not wool. The mohair has a smooth and soft surface while wool has a rough surface.
Stories as well as our personal experience, anecdotes and facts on the production and properties of mohair have over the last 30 years expanded our view and knowledge of mohair. Von Broich Mohair’ knowledge of mohair is today appreciated by businesses that retail “Mohair by Canard” because knowledge and insight is extremely important for the end customer. Von Broich Mohair no longer produces mohair themselves but the passion for the wonderful goats and the smooth hair has stayed of interest. That is why collaborators are chosen with great care and therefore the product can get the appreciation it deserves.
As the time progresses, so does the company. Von Broich Mohair has recently updated their website, www.mohair.dk, with direct Instagram-feed so visitors can follow the newest trends on the mohair market. Von Broich Mohair hopes that they can spread the passion for animal ethics and the mohair product to anyone interested and Von Broich Mohair wishes you all a wonderful day.
