The event
Anyone who designs sewing patterns on paper or drapes them on a dress form knows the problem: Before you can continue working digitally, you have to photograph, distort, scale, and digitally trace the pattern. Maren and Rasmus have developed an app that saves a lot of time here. As a counterpoint to the trend toward AI-generated and standard patterns, they are convinced that draping produces completely different, more creative ideas and designs than working on a laptop.
PatternScan Pro digitizes analog sewing patterns fully automatically. All it takes is a photo of the paper or muslin pattern. Contours are automatically recognized, distortions corrected, and dimensions scaled. The result can be processed directly in CLO3D, Illustrator, GRAFIS, etc.
There is a bigger idea behind the app: technology should not replace analog working methods, but make them more accessible. Make paper workflows efficient again so that draping, designing, and creativity can take center stage.
In the interview, the two explain how frustration with their own workflow led to the creation of a real product—with all the detours and obstacles along the way. How do you build something for creative people without overwhelming them with technology? Is there still any interest in working with paper?
For anyone interested in fashion design, entrepreneurship, product development, or the future of pattern making.
